How to Troubleshoot Problems with Outlook 2016 Calendar?

After upgrading to Outlook 2016, many people have experienced issues with the Outlook calendar. If you are one among them who has experienced a problem with the calendar, then this article is surely going to help you to solve the issues associated with your Outlook calendar.

Problem #1: Unable to open appointments on shared calendar

The problem is Outlook stopped responding when trying to open an appointment with a shared calendar.

Solution:

  1. Click on File tab and select Account Settings
  2. In Account Settings, click on the Email tab and then select the e-mail account
  3. Hit Change Account button and then press More Settings
  4. Select the Advanced tab and clean the Download Shared Folders box
  5. Click on Finish and restart Outlook

If it doesn't work, then disable Cached Exchange Mode for your account. For disabling Cached Exchange Mode follow the below-mentioned steps-

  1. Go to the File tab and select Account Settings
  2. In the Account Settings window, select the Email tab
  3. Then select the email account and click on the Change Account
  4. Next, disable Use Cached Exchange Mode and restart Outlook

Problem #2: Outlook 2016 calendar permission issue on Exchange 2010

Unable to create or edit calendar entries in Outlook 2016 which is connected to Microsoft Exchange 2010. It shows an error stating that �"You don't have permission to create an entry in this folder". Right-click the folder, and then click Properties to check your permissions for the folder. See the folder owner or your administrator to change your permissions."

Solution:

This kind of error arises, if you manually configure Exchange account. To fix this auto-configure your Exchange account and add an A-Record autodsicover.clientdomain.com pointing it to the Exchange Server SSL IP. Then edit/add entries in Outlook shared calendar.

Problem #3: File type .ics won't open in Outlook 2016

Outlook 2016 fails to open iCalendar files and shows- �File not recognized� error.

Solution:

First, try Cleaner to remove unwanted and unused file type associations from the registry. Next, make sure that you have completely uninstalled the previous version before upgrading to Outlook 2016. To do that, go to- HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office. And check whether the registry key is set to 16.0 or not. If not, then it means Office 2013 is not completely removed. Remove the old version completely.

Problem #4: Calendar items missing after Outlook 2016 upgrade

After installing Windows 10, Office 365 was upgraded to Outlook 2016. And all the Outlook attributes migrated to Outlook 2016 except calendars.

Solution:

Go to Windows.old folder and search for \Users\ \Documents\Outlook Files\Outlook.pst. Then import your PST file to Outlook 2016 and get access to all the calendar items. To import Outlook PST file, follow the below-mentioned procedure-

Go to Outlook and open the File menu, click Import and Export option. Then, select Import from another program or file option and click on Next followed by Comma Separated Values (DOS). In the Import a File box window, browse to select the PST file and double-click the file. Next, choose one of the following:

Select the folder to save the imported file and click Map Custom Fields to add or remove fields. And finally, click on the Finish button.

Sometimes, you will not find Outlook.pst in windows.old folder due to some unknown reasons. Hence, it is recommended to take a backup of PST file before upgrading. If you have a backup of the PST file, then you can easily transfer your Outlook calendar and other Outlook attributes after upgrade. For taking backup and moving your Outlook PST file, you can make use of Migrate Outlook software.

How to backup and migrate Outlook Calendar using Migrate Outlook software?

Step 1: Download the Migrate Outlook software and install it on your computer.

Step 2: When the main window appears, select the Migrate option.

Step 3: In the next window, you have to select the backup file by pressing on the Browse button.
